Paying it Forward with Poe’s Legacy Fundraiser

Bella honors her beloved tri-kitty by creating Poe’s Legacy Fundraiser. Together we continue to fulfill our mission to help Tripawds and their people everywhere. Read Poe’s story and see how you can help.

Poe was rescued by Stray Cat Blues on July 6th from a local farm. He suffered a horrific accident; we believe he got injured by some sort of heavy farm equipment, which severed his back left leg. Through a Go Fund Me, Stray Cat Blues and its supporters were able to raise $500 in just a few hours. Tripawds awarded Poe the $500 Tripawds Rescue Grant to help pay for the rest of his surgery. Thanks to everyone who donated and Tripawds, Poe was able to have a shot at the life he deserved.

Poe Finds His Furever Home

I came across Poe on July 13th when Stray Cat Blues posted about his successful leg amputation. The second I saw Poe, I knew I had to have him. Before he was even officially mine, I was telling everyone about my new kitten. I knew it was meant to be. My parents, who are also Stray Cat Blues fosters, helped me get in contact with Poe’s foster mommy and we set a date to meet. After that day, Poe officially became my baby and made me a mom for the first time.

At just 3 months old, Poe took the adventure of a lifetime and moved to West Virginia University with me. People say that college is the time where you find who you really are, and let me tell you, Poe’s personality definitely came out! I have never seen a cat be so comfortable in a new environment.

He was hopping all through my apartment, exploring each nook and cranny in the house. During the day, he enjoyed sunbathing on my bed in front of the giant windows, keeping me company while I did homework, and cuddling on my roommate’s beds. At night, he got the zoomies full force. Like clockwork, 10 o’clock would roll around and Poe would become wild! Running through his tunnel, chasing his springs and mousey, attacking my feet, you name it! When he finally got all worn out, he would curl up on my chest, right under my neck, and sleep for the night.

6AM would roll around and my little alarm clock would wake me up with meows and licks. He loved following me around, being my little shadow, wherever I would go. And to top it all off, he loved “bleeping”, which is sticking his tongue out just a little bit. It was the absolute cutest thing I have ever seen in my life.

For a few days, I noticed Poe was acting way less playful than usual and not taking an interest in his wet food. On September 10th, I took him to the vet at 4PM. Upon examination, the vet found his belly was very rounded and there was yellowing in his eyes, gums, and ears. After having bloodwork run and fluid drained from his abdomen, the vet diagnosed him with wet FIP (feline infectious peritonitis).

She explained that there is an oral treatment that came on the market back in May that has excellent results. My parents drove down to my school to pick Poe and I up, take us home, and start his treatment. In the five hour car ride home, unfortunately Poe’s condition declined rapidly. By the time we got home around 5:45 AM, Poe was struggling to stay strong. Around 10 AM on September 11th, Poe took his last breath in my arms, surrounded by his family.

Though Poe had a short life, he truly made the most of his time here. He lit up every room he hopped into and made every person who met him smile. He was the best alarm clock, shadow, and cuddle buddy that anyone could ask for. Thanks to Tripawds, Poe was able to experience a life full of love and play. In honor of Poe’s life, I have decided to set up this legacy fundraiser to help support the organization that made this all possible. By donating through Poe’s link, you can help another pet get a life saving surgery and a chance at the life they deserve in Poe’s name.

Even though Poe didn’t have a long life, I hope to keep his name and legacy alive by helping other pets and pet owners get the happy ending they deserve. Thank you in advance for your support.

With much love and gratitude,

~ Bella and Tripawd Angel Poe <3

  1. FROM HANNAH: I am so sorry for the loss of beloved Poe. No kitten could have been more loved, and you made his unfairly short time on earth better than anyone else could have. May my small donation help his memory – and your devotion to such a beautiful creature – live on.
