Meet Baby Warrior Kitty. She is a 2-year-old, rescue Tripawd cat, adopted when she was a kitten. April 20th, 2024 she had gotten out and before we could find her, she was hit by a car. Her pelvis and legs were crushed and she had drug herself into our bushes. We heard her cries and found her. We rushed her to the emergency veterinarian hospital, she was barely alive. They stabilized her and told us to take her to her vet the next day.

Baby Kitty’s Tripawd Tale

We took her to her vet the next morning and they had us rush her to the Specialist. We were told she would need 3 surgeries, amputation, pins in her hips, and reconstruction of her remaining back paw. They began the surgeries that night but after the amputation, her surgeon said she wasn’t strong enough for the other 2 surgeries and probably wouldn’t make it through the night. She made it through the night. After a few more days of stabilization, we brought her home to recover from just the amputation.

She had several complications. The hair on her remaining hind leg began to fall off and her paws scabbed up. She was walking on the top of her remaining paw, The specialist said the needed flow was not getting to her leg and paw and that if the situation weren’t reversed we’d still have to put her down. That was unthinkable. How do you take life from a being that has fought so hard to stay alive? The specialist suggested a physical therapist, but we were already almost $5,000 in debt and did not know how we could continue.

How Tripawd Cat Rehab Helps Baby Kitty

We finally had lost hope when Baby Kitty’s, scabbed paws started to fall off. Then I remembered Tripawds community website and tried to find information and found the Maggie Moo Rehab Fund. We thought we would take Baby Kitty there as a last-ditch effort, we would be told there was nothing we could do, then we’d put her down with ceremony and love. At the consultation, we discovered she was healing well and they could save the hind leg. The treatment plan was a month of Tripawd cat rehab including laser therapy, twice a week.

After the first laser therapy consultation, she began walking on the bottom of her back hind paw. She had not been released from her specialist yet to do the physical therapy, but after several weeks of laser therapy alone, she had feeling in her hind leg, the hair was growing back, the scabs on her pads had fallen off and new pads are there and healed and she is walking on the bottom of her back paw. We met with the therapist two days ago and the plan is to get X-rays to see where the healing in her pelvic, leg, and paw fractures is to release her for physical therapy. Baby Kitty made it!
