Amputation for Tripawd Hound Rosie

Rosie needed an amputation due to the lesion that was found on radiographs at the proximal end of her humerus. It was suspected to be an osteosarcoma and was confirmed on biopsy. Due to the likelihood of spread and the pain caused by the cancer, amputation was the best chance for her to survive with a better quality of life.

The finding of the lesion and the surgery were both unexpected and due to the probability of it being an osteosarcoma at the time surgery was scheduled promptly without time to raise funds like I would have hoped. Since I work at the clinic her surgery was done at I was able to have her costs discounted a little but the end cost was still more than I could afford at the time.

The Tripawds ASAP grant helps me by covering some of the costs I had associated with her surgery. I am currently a full time veterinary student and only able to work during the summer so funds are limited due to my inability to work full time. The grant will allow me to focus what funds I have a little more on a few rounds of chemotherapy and a vaccine trial for osteosarcomas to help get her a better chance at her life. My dream was always to have her by my side when I graduated from vet school.

  1. Rosie is a very gorgeous hound, Katie! Thank you for sharing your story. I’m thrilled the Tripawds ASAP fund was able to secure the funding for Rosie’s amputation. I will be praying that the chemo works and Rosie lives a healthy life and is by your side when you graduate? How old is Rosie and what type of hound?

  2. Hey! Rosie is a 12 yeard old Bluetick / Walker Coonhound! Thank you she just finished her 4th round of chemo this week so we’re stopping that and she completed her vaccine trial earlier this month! Treatments have been a little hard on her body so we’re gonna take a break from the chemo and try to get some weight back on her! Her spirits have been great through all this and we’re hoping for the best. Thanks for your kind words!
