New Tripawd Gandolf’s Road to Recovery
My dog’s dew claw nail somehow got ripped completely out. A bacterial infection started. He was put on antibiotics right away, but several areas of his leg started to rupture and necrotic tissue developed almost immediately. A second antibiotic was added and daily bandage changes were done by the vet. The infection finally started responding to antibiotics, but the damage to the connective tissue and muscle was severe so amputation ended up being the most humane and best choice for him.
New Tripawd Gandolf is a large breed dog and it was his front right leg that was amputated. It all happened very fast so there was no time for fundraising. I do have pet insurance on him but they required the bill to be paid in full before they will reimburse and they will reimburse 80%. I was able to pay the bill, but the money came from what I have been saving to have my car repaired and money set aside for monthly bills (utilities, insurance, etc.). The Tripawds ASAP grant funds are helping me to be able to continue paying the pet insurance premiums, gas for transportation, etc.
