Tri-kitty Nova Has a Bright Future Ahead

Here is her application story as told by Nova’s mom Staci, an active member of our community.

Hello. My kitty Nova (formerly Duchess) was born with a deformity. Her other 4 littermates all died at birth due to complications of the mother being such a young age and a stalled labor, we also had to get milk replacer and syringe feed her because her mother didnt know what to do, so in a way me and my kids are like a second mother and she is our baby.

I noticed something was off when she started to walk. I applied for a grant called Sophie’s grant to get her in and see if there was something wrong.

Sure enough, xrays showed she was born with out the ball to the ball and joint socket in her left hip.

The vet said if she doesn’t get an amputation her bone will be constantly rubbing on bone wearing down the bone and the bone will build back at the same time causing her great pain and eventually lose the ability to use that leg.

I can tell its bothering her already because mid play she will all the sudden stop and bite and lick at her leg. She doesn’t seem to be as active either as the other kittens we’ve had most likely because the pain.

It makes me and my daughter’s sad and get teary eyed when she does it cause right now there is nothing we can do right now to help her.

I’ve thought about giving her to someone who can afford her surgery but my daughter bawled her eyes out cause its supposed to be ours she said, and we all fell in love her she’s such a sweetheart and I just cant see it in me because she completes the 3 generational cat family I was actual intending for so each of my 3 kids can have a kitty.

She has made it easier on me and kids to get through this time, and for her helping us I really need to help her.
