Tripawd Pirate Paul Tells His Story

In December of 2021 I had a cancerous mass removed from my tiny left front leg. Unfortunately, it returned this year. On October 21, 2022 I had my left front leg amputated in order to combat this cancer. Surgery was successful and I have been resting and recovering since. Learning how to walk on three legs has been a mostly easy transition.

With only a couple stumbles and spills along the way, I’d say I’m doing really good; although I get tired pretty quickly. The vet said that I’m not allowed to hop on the stairs or onto the couch, so I’ve been relying a lot on my Pawrent to pick me up and put me places that I am used to going all on my own. He’s normally really good at picking me up quickly, but sometimes I have to growl at him to get his attention.

Going to the bathroom as a Tripawd pirate has been slightly more difficult because there are stairs that lead down to the grassy area where I do my business. I can jump back up but I can’t get down on my own. A ramp is under construction as we speak. My sutures come out on Thursday November 3rd. Once my incision fully heals I am excited to get back out on my daily runs through the local park and get back out into the world.

I would have to say my favorite part of all this is the extra love and treats I am receiving. As you can see, I really enjoy dressing up. Since losing my leg I have so many new costume ideas and I can’t wait to share them with everyone.

All in all the transition to being a Tripawd Pirate has been a mostly smooth one with a few learning experiences here and there. I’m really looking forward to getting the hang of it, the vet said around three weeks is when I feel back to my normal self. Thanks for reading my story and please reach out if you have any suggestions. I’m on Instagram @TriPawdPaul.
