Tripawd Millie Mae’s Family Grateful for Help from Tripawds ASAP Grant

I’m Tucker and my son is Tanner (13), in South Carolina.

It was a long night at the 24 hr emergency veterinarian hospital the night of Super Bowl Sunday. My 13-year-old son witnessed a hit-and-run that evening when our Labradoodle, Millie Mae, was hit by a car.

Her condition was uncertain for several hours however after 12 hrs her prognosis was good. The fluid around her lung significantly decreased after the “tap” procedure, 24 hours of IV antibiotics and fluids, and continuous oxygen therapy in the oxygen box.

The ER veterinarian told us we would need to schedule an amputation within the next week or so. A surgical option was not the best treatment plan. This was because the her shoulder/leg was fractured in 3 places and would be a very invasive surgery. And it could not guarantee she would be pain free after a couple of years. Also it was be a surgery that could cost more than $8,000.

The Dr recommended we visit and consult with a local vet for amputation. I consulted with 2 different Veterinarian hospitals in my area to find the best fit both financially and quality care.

I did have to push the surgery back a couple weeks due to the high expense paid for the emergency care the night of the accident ($1,600). But I was relieved and happy to find a vet hospital about an hour from home. They quoted the most reasonable price and showed outstanding patient experience during our pre surgery consultation.

I was able to schedule and completed Millie’s on Friday, the 28th. I am happy to report Millie’s surgery went well and she is now home in recovery.

She is doing great and even walked out to us when we picked her up the day after surgery.

I am grateful for the opportunity to submit my application as a candidate for your financial assistance program. It will help my family financially in a very big way.

I am a single mother of a 13 year old son, named Tanner, who unfortunately was witness to the accident. I used the majority of our savings for the emergency visit. And, worked overtime and borrowed money from family to make sure we couple have Millie’s surgery and get her out of pain.

If your foundation chooses us I plan to use $400 to pay back the loan from my family. The remaining $600 will go back into my checking that was taken out of money allocated for our mortgage payment.

If chose this will allow us to be able to heal and move forward without having to default or worry about bills becoming past due.

I have received so much help and support for the chat community. It is my hope that in the future I can offer the same support and encouragement for other that I received.

Thank you for your consideration. And for everything your foundation does to serve, support, and bring value to so many families.

Warmest,

Tucker, Tanner, and Millie Mae
