Thanks to an ASAP Grant, Tripawd Senior Scarlett Gets a Second Chance

Here is her story as told by Scarlett’s mom Mariah.

I noticed Scarlett limping a little after running in the yard after checking out her foot and leg and seeing nothing noticeable I kept an eye on it to see if it would get better. The limping was intermittent.

After about a week of it not resolving on its own it looked a tiny bit swollen and I took her to the vet. The X-rays showed possible osteosarcoma.

We also tested for Valley Fever since we had been in northern Arizona a week or two before. That came back negative. We also did the bone marrow biopsy to confirm.

When that came back positive for osteosarcoma and her chest X-rays were clear I decided to opt for the front leg amputation.

The vet gave her an acupuncture B12 treatment and started her on mushroom Immune Gold (turkey tail mushroom complex), fish oil, and T-Relief homeopathic medicine leading up to the surgery.

The surgery was done 4 days ago and she is doing great. She has had no accidents in the house and was able to get outside with towel support the first couple days and walking on her own after that.

She can squat, on her own and maintain balance.

I am still with her 24/7 to make sure she does not fall or hurt herself but she is doing amazing! She does not seem to be in pain with the meds that she was given and even wants to chase squirrels up trees still.

I am happy with the outcome and hopefully we will be back to camping and outdoor pursuits again soon.
