Sweet Three-Legged Eddie Faces Setbacks After an Active Life
Eddie is a 9-year-old Australian Shepherd who has led an incredibly active life, filled with daily walks, weekly hikes, frisbee catches, and playful moments with his younger brother, Moose. However, everything changed in the spring of 2024 when he tore his left ACL.

Tripawd Eddie Undergoes TPLO Surgery
Although his TPLO surgery went well, he never regained the same level of mobility or confidence he once had.
Things took a turn for the worse in November 2024 when he injured his right ACL. After a remaining leg surgery on that leg, he suffered a fall that broke the surgical hardware, leading to four weeks in a cast with minimal progress.
Remaining Leg Surgery Complications Continue
Subsequently, he underwent a revision TPLO surgery, but due to bone loss from the extended casting, that procedure failed just weeks later. To make matters worse, he developed a severe infection shortly after, prompting a recommendation for amputation after two additional weeks of casts and X-rays.

Eddie Also Battles Front Leg Arthritis
Compounding his struggles, Eddie has been dealing with severe arthritis in his front right paw for the past couple of years. The amputation has forced him to place even more weight on his front legs, complicating his recovery.
His Emotional Health Is Also Affected
He’s not the same joyful dog he used to be; his lack of exercise and independence has led to noticeable depression, making it our top priority to help him get back on track.
Eddie Starts Home Rehab Routine
Our rehab facilitator, Shawn Zimmerman, has provided us with clear exercises to perform at home, requiring 10-30 minutes daily based on Eddie’s comfort level.

We have access to:
- Videos and written instructions for massaging his back end, front shoulders, and the wound area
- Guidance to stretch his legs daily
- Recommendations to supplement his diet with fish oil and joint health supplements
Post TPLO Surgery, Tripawd Eddie’s Path to Recovery Is Underway
We currently have 10 rehab sessions scheduled with Shawn Zimmerman at MedVet and are maintaining a positive outlook for Eddie’s recovery. This sweet boy has endured more than any dog should have to, and I’m hopeful we can restore him to the happy, playful pup he once was.
