Meet Mixed breed Tripawd Mocha
Mocha is a 7 year old mixed breed who was adopted as a four-legged puppy from the Humane Society of Silicon Valley. Since 11/22, Mocha has suffered from foreleg lameness and pain that became increasingly worse over the next year and a half. She had been conservatively treated for unknown lameness, a possible ligament ears, and speculation of nerve damage due to an injury or tumor. Mixed breed Tripawd Mocha finally underwent an amputation on 4/1/24. No medical reason was found for her lameness and pain and she remains a “mystery” (according to her surgeon).
Since Mocha’s amputation her cheerful energetic and snack loving personality has returned! She enjoyed her first session with Amy Reichert, RVT, CCRA at Beacon Vet Specialists. She taught us the following exercises to increase strength and balance in her core and remaining limbs. Although she was hesitant, Mocha loved receiving treats for her efforts!
Mocha’s At-home Rehab Routine:
- Front feet up hip extension stretch
- Diagonal leg standing
- Standing balance on an unstable surface
