Oliver’s Story

Oliver is a very special furry blessing who found our family Christmas Eve 2016. A senior Labrador Retriever, he appeared roaming around our neighborhood in a very abused and neglected state. Irrespective of the difficulties he has endured, Oliver’s gentleness and warm loving nature shone through from the very start.

His patience and good nature have endured through all the health issues we have addressed from the very beginning. One of the most challenging diagnoses has been his most recent of an aggressive form of cancer called histiocytic sarcoma, localized around his back right ankle joint. Oliver received a partial limb amputation March 2018.

Physically, Oliver has been doing wonderfully! His surgical wounds have healed and he has been in very good spirits! Since the procedure, Ollie is seemingly even more apt to walking around and being involved than we have seen him! We have all been so surprised to see him blossom after surgery. God willing we are looking forward to a prosthesis and many long walks! (In meantime we use both a Help ‘Em Up harness and push him longer distances on cart).

Medically and microscopically, Oliver’s situation is a bit more complicated. Removal of a near-by lymph node showed very early stages of cancer metastasis. We have surgical lymphadenectomy scheduled in May 2018 to try to remove any affected lymph nodes. We have also discussed immune system treatment afterwards using an experimental IV medication to hopefully reinforce halting the progression of the cancer.

Needless to say, this has all been very expensive and we are financially in need! We are so grateful for opportunity to apply to programs like Tripawds for help. Any and all financial assistance is greatly needed! Please let us know of any other ideas. We will look into a GoFundMe page as well so individuals may donate; please stay tuned! Thank you so very much for your help. We all love Oliver so much. He has been an absolute gift from God to our family. Sending love to you all for reading this and please say prayers for Oliver.
